Day Lewis – Pharmaceutical Industrial Climate Control Solution

The industrial climate control solution required a bespoke system designed for Pharmaceutical Warehouse Heating and Cooling.

Client – Day Lewis, Croydon

Project Scope & Objectives

The industrial climate control solution required a bespoke system designed for Warehouse heating and cooling.

It specifically needed to meet the stringent MHRA (Medicine & Healthcare products Regulatory Agency) guidelines for the storage of pharmaceutical goods.

As well as this, it needed to be a total solution that is energy efficient, offering the very best in performance all year round.

Challenges

  • Ongoing temperature excursions
  • Future proofing against rising external ambient temperatures
  • Energy efficiency
  • Installation and co-ordination in and around a live working site
  • External plant locations
  • Temperature distribution within confined mezzanine floors
  • Deadline

Solution

Air Technology Systems are leading Industrial Climate Control specialists within the UK, providing heating, cooling, and ventilation services for large scale warehousing buildings.

We have become conversant with the requirements of pharmaceutical storage and achieving the requirements of the MRHA. We have a clear understanding of risks associated with not meeting these requirements.

The main challenges with this project were the ongoing temperature excursions and climate controlling an existing warehouse with existing racking, stock, services, and a mezzanine floor.

Our approach to these challenges was to design a bespoke solution utilising our very own high velocity Industrial Climate Control Solution.

This system provides horizontal and vertical temperature control throughout a space. This makes it ideal for densely packed areas, mezzanines, and tall warehouse buildings.

Our Approach

Distribution ductwork is routed at high level within the pitch of the roof, limiting the impact the HVAC services have on space comparative to conventional systems.

The air is then supplied into the space via a series of self-balancing High Velocity Nozzle Outlets. These outlets are designed and selected such that no mechanical balancing aids are required, resulting in a maintenance-free high-level system.

With space being at a premium both internal and external to the building, we selected one of our specialists Packaged Air Handling Units (PAHU). This made for an easier installation, commissioning and future service and maintenance regime.

These units are specifically designed for wholesale heating and cooling and incorporate optimisation. They provide free summer cooling and night purge mode operation. This applies when the external ambient temperatures are low enough to satisfy the building load demand.

Result

The combination of our specialist in house design practices, coupled with highly efficient technology resulted in a project that was delivered on time, within budget and which performed above and beyond our clients’ expectations.
