Day Lewis – Pharmaceutical Industrial Climate Control Solution

The industrial climate control solution required a bespoke system designed for Pharmaceutical Warehouse Heating and Cooling.

Client – Day Lewis, Croydon

Project Scope & Objectives

The industrial climate control solution required a bespoke system designed for Warehouse heating and cooling.

It specifically needed to meet the stringent MHRA (Medicine & Healthcare products Regulatory Agency) guidelines for the storage of pharmaceutical goods.

As well as this, it needed to be a total solution that is energy efficient, offering the very best in performance all year round.

It specifically needed to meet the stringent MHRA (Medicine & Healthcare products Regulatory Agency) guidelines for the storage of pharmaceutical goods. It needed to be a total solution that is energy efficient, offering the very best in performance all year round.

Challenges

  • Ongoing temperature excursions
  • Future proofing against rising external ambient temperatures
  • Energy efficiency
  • Installation and co-ordination in and around a live working site
  • External plant locations
  • Temperature distribution within confined mezzanine floors
  • Deadline

Solution

Air Technology Systems are leading Industrial Climate Control specialists within the UK, providing heating, cooling, and ventilation services for large scale warehousing buildings.

We have become conversant with the requirements of pharmaceutical storage and achieving the requirements of the MRHA. We have a clear understanding of risks associated with not meeting these requirements.

The main challenges with this project were the ongoing temperature excursions and climate controlling an existing warehouse with existing racking, stock, services, and a mezzanine floor.

Our approach to these challenges was to design a bespoke solution utilising our very own high velocity Industrial Climate Control Solution.

This system provides horizontal and vertical temperature control throughout a space. This makes it ideal for densely packed areas, mezzanines, and tall warehouse buildings.

Our Approach

Distribution ductwork is routed at high level within the pitch of the roof, limiting the impact the HVAC services have on space comparative to conventional systems.

The air is then supplied into the space via a series of self-balancing High Velocity Nozzle Outlets. These outlets are designed and selected such that no mechanical balancing aids are required, resulting in a maintenance-free high-level system.

With space being at a premium both internal and external to the building, we selected one of our specialists Packaged Air Handling Units (PAHU). This made for an easier installation, commissioning and future service and maintenance regime.

These units are specifically designed for wholesale heating and cooling and incorporate optimisation. They provide free summer cooling and night purge mode operation. This applies when the external ambient temperatures are low enough to satisfy the building load demand.

Result

The combination of our specialist in house design practices, coupled with highly efficient technology resulted in a project that was delivered on time, within budget and which performed above and beyond our clients’ expectations.

All Electric Industrial Climate Control Solution

Air Handling Unit

All-Electric Industrial Climate Control Solution

Introducing our all-electric green packaged industrial climate control solution, utilising the latest in refrigerant heat pump technology and our  high velocity ventilation system.

Client – United Caps, Dinnington

Project Scope & Objectives

Working on behalf of Jarvale Construction and South Yorkshire Building Services, Air Technology Systems Ltd were commissioned to design, install and commission an all-electric, green, industrial climate control system within the new 14,560m² production facility.

Temperature and humidity control were the key parameters for the successful operation of the production and manufacturing process.

Due to the requirements of the project, we took a more innovative approach, by providing an all-electric solution to satisfy the heating and cooling demand.

Challenges

  • Distribution of 220kW of Cooling & 110kW of Heating
  • Maintaining 20°C Winter Temperature & 28°C Summer Temperature
  • Providing an energy efficient all electric solution
  • Humidity control
  • MHE – Mechanical Handling Equipment heat loads
  • Pressurisation of adjoining Automation Corridor to prevent cross contamination
  • Noise restrictions, due to the proximity of a local school
  • A full width crane rail installed within the production area resulting in no ductwork being able to be installed within the area

Solution

This was an extremely challenging project from the offset, due to the air distribution within the production area as well as delivering the necessary cooling and heating requirements via a electric heating medium.

The solution required a turnkey approach, incorporating our own proprietary High Velocity Air Induction Industrial Climate Control System together with 2no. high efficiency all electric PAHUs (Packaged Air Handling Units).

This combination enabled our design team to provide a solution that negated the necessity for ductwork to be run within the main production area.

Our Approach

Treated High Velocity air is injected into the space via air induction nozzles installed within the service corridor wall. These nozzle outlets are positioned and angled to ensure even temperature coverage within the space, whilst minimising stratification and potential dead spots.

This is a key design characteristic of our Industrial Climate Control System, providing maximum performance and efficiency, delivered via a method which is significantly smaller than like-for-like conventional HVAC and or Displacement Systems.

Result

The combination of our innovative design approach, with highly efficient technology and project management practices, resulted in a project that was delivered on time and on budget. This project also took place in the midst of a global pandemic.

Our all-Electric Industrial Climate Control Solutions are quickly becoming the go-to solution for our client’s HVAC requirements. As the UK enters this energy transfer phase, we aim to provide certainty during uncertainty with the production and distribution of fossil fuels such as natural gas.

Not only this, but as part of sustainably produced and procured electricity, our clients are able to benefit from efficient technology, which will reduce the overall Carbon Footprint compared to conventional fossil fuel systems.

Growing for 30 Years

Tree Planting Initiative

Growing for 30 Years!

This month saw ATS partner with South Bromsgrove High School in a tree planting initiative for our 30th anniversary.

Our Initiative

A team of eight from Air Technology Systems paired with a group of very enthusiastic students from South Bromsgrove High School. This formed part of a tree planting initiative linking to our 30th anniversary.

ATS wanted to give back to the local community, whilst considering our environmental responsibility and aim to eventually be net carbon zero.

It made sense for ATS to plant 30 trees at the school, all bought from Willowbrook Garden Centre, an established family-run business within the local community.

Our Community

ATS have established links with the school and have supported South Bromsgrove on several occasions before.

This includes the year 11 mock interview process and at the school’s annual careers fair.

Our Corporate Social Responsibility

Janine Winters, HR Manager, said ‘Taking our corporate responsibility seriously and supporting our local community is important to our business. So we wanted to incorporate this as part of our 30th anniversary by supporting an environmental initiative with a local school.’

Over the past few years, it’s the small and local businesses that have suffered the most, which is why it’s of paramount importance that we support these, making more ethical decisions.

Giving Back

James Siddle, Deputy Headteacher at South, said ‘We wholeheartedly support eco-initiatives, and we are very fortunate to be part of a community that recognises the importance of protecting the environment and engaging young people in this important work.’

It’s safe to say that all had a good time, and we look forward to the next opportunity in which we can give back. Keep your eyes peeled for more on our 30th anniversary.
